Previously he was assistant managing editor for storytelling at the Los Angeles Times, where he led an initiative to bring innovation and creativity to coverage across the newsroom. Projects he edited have been recognized with a Pulitzer Prize and a Gerald Loeb Award. He served as environment and business editor at the Times, and led the business department at the San Francisco Chronicle.
